Goruli Mtsvane

Indigenous white of the Gori hills

Goruli Mtsvane is a white grape native to Shida Kartli, the hills and valleys around Gori — its name means "the green one of Gori." It has long been at home in the Ateni Valley, where the cool nights and mineral soils suit it well, and it remains one of the defining varieties of the wider Gori area and of Atenuri itself.

It is a grape of bright, high acidity, with fresh citrus fruit and a light floral lift. On its own it makes a lively, crisp dry white, and that same natural freshness is exactly what makes it so well suited to sparkling wine — it carries the wine's energy without losing balance.

At Château Ateni, Goruli Mtsvane is the base of our Atenuri and our varietal Goruli Mtsvane, and it gives freshness to our Atenuri Brut sparkling, the Khidistauri blend and our Pet-Nat.
