Chinuri
The sparkling grape of Ateni
Chinuri is a white grape native to Kartli, long grown in the Ateni Valley and around Mukhrani. It ripens late in the season, holding onto its bright natural acidity well into autumn — a quality that has made it one of the defining grapes of our corner of Georgia.
Chinuri gives wines with crisp, lively acidity and a clean green-apple and quince character. That natural freshness is exactly what makes the grape so well suited to sparkling wine, where its acidity carries the bubbles and keeps the wine bright and refreshing.
At Château Ateni, Chinuri is at the heart of our Atenuri and our varietal Chinuri, and it gives the backbone to our sparkling wines — the Atenuri Brut and our Pet-Nat.
