Buza
Light, bright red of Kartli
Buza is a red grape and one of the indigenous Kartli varieties we grow in our vineyard in the Ateni micro-zone. It makes a red dry table wine, cornelian to ruby in the glass, and it is often described as the complete opposite of Saperavi.
On the nose Buza is restrained and elegant, with fresh red fruit: sour cherry and red currant. In the mouth it is light and airy, low in tannin and lively, carried by bright acidity, and its wines usually reach 12 to 13.5% alcohol.
At Château Ateni, Buza is bottled on its own as our Buza dry red, and it gives colour and red fruit to our Pet-Nat Rosé alongside Goruli Mtsvane and Chinuri.
